QUEEN CREEK, AZ The Silverswords placed 19 student athletes on the 2008-09 PacWest Academic All-Conference Team. Chaminade had six repeat honorees.  Four seniors earned the honor for the second year in a row.  Audra Takara(W. Tennis), Krystal Walthour (W. XC), Raechelle Pereira (W. Soccer) and Tyler Pickle (M. XC) concluded their careers with the prestigious honor in both 2008 and 2009.

QUEEN CREEK, AZ – Chaminade University senior Audra Takara (Mililani, HI/Mililani) gave the Silverswords their inaugural All-PacWest selection after she claimed Second Team honors the conference announced recently.

 

Takara finished the year with a 7-7 dual-meet singles record playing at the top spot in 13 of Chaminade’s 16 matches. She was 6-7 at first singles to rank fourth in the league in winning percentage (.462).

Kona, HI- Today’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Vulcans of UH Hilo concludes the Pac West Championships for CUH with a fourth place finish. The Swords are currently ranked 9th in the NCAA West region, but due to a recent change, the region will only be sending four teams to the NCAA tournament.

Kona, HI- Today’s 5-4 win was as big as it gets for this year’s Chaminade Women’s Tennis team. With the recent NCAA Regional rankings announcing Grand Canyon as the #8 team in the West Region and Chaminade ranked #9, this match had serious post-season implications.

Kona, HI- Chaminade’s Women’s Tennis Team won a battle against the Urban Knights of Academy of Art this afternoon by a score of 5-3.  In a match that could have gone either way, the Swords won two matches in three sets as both Tiffany DeVincent at #2 singles and Silkie Kawahakui at #5 singles pulled off the three set victories.

Waipahu, HI- Today’s 8-1 defeat at the hands of UH Hilo may appear to be a sound loss. In fact, the Vulcans did indeed defeat the Swords this morning at Central Oahu Regional Park, but closer inspection tells a slightly different story and provides some positives for the upcoming Pac West Championships. #1, #4 and #5 singles were matches that were battled throughout, as Chaminade fell just short in these matches, either taking a set or just missing pushing matches to three sets.

Waipahu, HI- Facing their second Division I opponent in as many days, the Swords fought valiantly against the Cowgirls of Wyoming. Silkie Kawahakui nearly knocked off her second division I opponent in as many days, giving Wyoming’s Jamie Nelson a scare at #4 singles.

Honolulu, HI- Chaminade’s Women’s Tennis Team fell to UH Manoa yesterday at the UH Manoa tennis courts.  A makeup of a previously scheduled match, Chaminade managed to get a win at #5 singles and the team was very competitive in all three doubles matches.  Silkie Kawahakui got the win for the Swords winning in a tie break over UH’s Cristine Ito.
