CUH Athletics: Chaminade's Matt Sanders wins WASEA Hawai‘i Student Employee of the Year Award

HONOLULU - The Western Association of Student Employment Administrators (WASEA) announced recently that Matthew Sanders of Chaminade University has won its Hawai'i Student Employee of the Year Award for 2009-2010.
Having been selected as Chaminade University's Student Employee of the Year, Sanders was evaluated against nominees from other local universities, and ultimately selected as the winner for the entire state.
Sanders worked for Chaminade's athletic department for the past four years as its statistician using industry-standard StatCrew software program for volleyball, basketball and softball.
As Ryan Blangiardi, Sanders' supervisor and special assistant to the director of athletics, describes him, “He is hard working and performs his extremely challenging tasks flawlessly. The pressures of taking statistics at a fast-paced intercollegiate athletic event require him to stay focused and calm in the most tense situations.”
In interacting with opposing coaches, game officials and media personnel, Sanders always presents a respectful, confident and first-class image not only of Chaminade athletics, but of the entire university, according to Blangiardi.
In addition to performing at a high academic level, Sanders also is actively involved in the ROTC program. In his spare time, he enjoys creating videos and submitting them for local, national and international competitions.
The university formally honored Sanders at its annual co-curricular awards night as the academic year ended. As a winner at the state level, Sanders will be evaluated against other state winners at the regional level.
This is the second year in a row that the Chaminade Student Employee of the Year has won for the entire state of Hawai'i.
WASEA is a non-profit association of professionals involved with programs for students who work while attending college. The association supports and promotes student employment through research, professional development and the exchange of information.
The student employee of the year honorees are annually selected across the country in celebration of National Student Worker Appreciation Week.
