KAHUKU, HI- Junior Jordan Oda (Kapa’a, HI/Kapa’a) led Chaminade in the first match of the spring against HPU and BYU-Hawaii on Fazio Course at Turtle Bay yesterday afternoon.  Oda shot 92 for the round.

WAIPIO, HI – The Silverswords season is officially underway.  Chaminade, recently selected eighth in the ten team PacWest Conference, took on the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran this evening in a doubleheader at Central Oahu Regional Park.  Chaminade struggled in the opening game of the doubleheader, falling 9-1 in five innings.  Junior Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin JC) scored the lone Silversword run and freshman pitcher Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) took the loss in her first game as a Silversword pitcher.
 
The Lutes had 11 hits in the opening contest, with PLU’s Stacey Hagensen leading the way with two hits and two runs.

HONOLULU, HI – Chaminade University is pleased to announce the selection of senior women’s basketball player Kelly Costello (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake) and junior men’s basketball player Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, AUS/Holy Spirit College) to the 2011-12 CoSIDA Academic All District Teams. Costello and Cooks were both named to the District 8 teams, the district in which Chaminade University competes.

HONOLULU, HI – The Swords took on Dixie State in a battle of PacWest powerhouses tonight in the friendly confines of McCabe Gym.  The contest had obvious conference implications as both teams were near the top of the conference standings.  It is a familiar spot for both programs as both teams have won two PacWest Conference Championships in the past four years.    
 
Chaminade and Dixie State were ready to go right from the start as the intensity of the game was obvious early on.  Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood)   connected from three with 13:18 left in the opening half to take a 10-9 lead early on.   Dixie State responded and led by thirteen points before a Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, AUS/Holy Spirit) three cut the lead to ten at the break. Murray led Chaminade with 10 points and 7 rebounds in the opening contest.  Senior forward Matt Cousins(Santa Rosa, CA/Cardinal Newman) added 7 points and 6 rebounds.  The Swords trailed 39-29 at the half.  Nine players played for Dixie State in the opening half.  All nine Red Storm athletes scored in the first half.

HONOLULU, HI – The Swords took on Dixie State in a PacWest conference matchup this evening in McCabe Gym falling to the Red Storm by a score of 86-49.   
 
Dixie State, currently tied for second in the PacWest Conference with Cal Baptist and Grand Canyon, was looking to avoid the upset at the hands of the Silverswords.  CUH was ready to go leading 10-9 early on after a Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, Pearl City) steal and fast-break layup.    Following a Red Storm timeout, Dixie exerted control of the contest, responding with 17-5 run to lead 27-14 midway through the half.    The Red Storm led 49-22 at the break.

2.1.12 | Softball
HONOLULU, HI- The 2012 CUH Softball team is set to start another exciting season on the diamond.  Chaminade, led by Head Coach Kent Yamaguchi, features another competitive schedule, complete with trips to Arizona, California, Utah and the Big Island.  The Swords open their season with nine of eleven matchups at home (Central Oahu Regional Park).  The first contest of the year against Pacific Lutheran at Central Oahu Regional Park (CORP) is set for 4:30 PM local time on February 3rd.  The matchup will be a doubleheader.  The Swords PacWest Conference home opener is Sunday, March 4th against Dominican at CORP.

HONOLULU, HI – The Swords faced a veteran opponent from Phoenix, AZ tonight in McCabe Gym. The ‘Lopes of Grand Canyon gave CUH all they could handle before the Swords took the PacWest Conference home victory, 69-66 in OT. 
 
Chaminade got off to a fast start leading 14-6 after Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood)   and Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) combined for back to back three’s just minutes into the first half.  Junior guard Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, AUS/Holy Spirit) added a jumper and it was a ten-point lead (16-6) early on. Grand Canyon came all the way back as a four point play by junior Steven Morin gave GCU a 31-26 lead.  Grand Canyon led 35-30 at the break.  Bailey led the way with 9 points, 3 assists for Chaminade in the first twenty minutes of action.
