PHOENIX, AZ – Chaminade freshman outside hitter Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) was named to the Pac West Weekly Honor Roll for matches contested Oct 12th – Oct 18th. Viveiros led the conference in scoring average for the week.
BYU-Hawaii sophomore outside hitter Losaline Faka‘osi (Salt Lake City, UT/Highland) was named the Pacific West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Oct. 19.
Faka‘osi led the Seasiders to a 3-0 week in conference play and helped BYU-Hawaii climb back into the PacWest race. She averaged 4.21 points per game after tallying 46 kills, three aces and three block assists for 50.5 points. She ranked fourth in scoring in the conference for the week, while her 3.83 kills per game also ranked fourth.
On defense she was outstanding, ranking third in digs per game after totaling 55 in 12 games for a 4.58 average.
PacWest Volleyball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Whitney Viveiros - Chaminade (Fr., 5-10, OH, Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama)...led the PacWest in scoring average for the week (4.80 points per game)...amassed 48 points on 44 kills, one ace, two block solos and two block assists...ranked second in kills per game (4.40) and ninth in hitting (.288)...ranked second for the week in digs per game (4.70) after totaling 47 in 10 games.
Kelly Balanay - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-0, MH, San Diego, CA/Valhalla)...helped lead HPU to a 2-1 week by averaging 4.73 points per game...ranked second in scoring average and fourth in hitting (.489)...ranked third for the week in kills per game (4.18)...totaled 52 points in three matches on 46 kills, one ace, four block solos and two block assists.
Tanza Buroker - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-11, MB, Riverton, UT/Riverton)...helped the Seasiders to a 3-0 week...led the PacWest in blocks per game (1.25) for the week...totaled 15 blocks on 13 assists and two solos over a dozen games...ranked seventh in hitting average for the week (.346)...had 26 kills and eight errors in 52 attempts.
Amy Bush - Academy of Art (So., 6-3, MB, Yucaipa, CA/Yucaipa)...ranked third in the PacWest in hitting for the week (.489)...posted 28 kills in 47 attempts with just five errors...tied for ninth in kills per game for the week (3.11).
Kawena Cubi-Otineru - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 5-10, OPP/OH, Haleiwa, HI/St. Francis)...recorded the highest hitting percentage of the week in the PacWest (.545)...had just five errors in 44 attempts with 29 kills...ranked sixth in points per game (3.72)...totaled 33.5 points on 29 kills, one block solo and seven block assists...ranked sixth in kills per game for the week (3.22).
Laurann Durbin - Grand Canyon (So., 5-7, L, Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope)...led the PacWest in digs per game (6.85) and total digs (70) during the week...helped Grand Canyon post a 3-1 record.
Kristen Preach - Grand Canyon (Fr.-r, 5-10, S, Phoenix, AZ/Xavier)...helped the Antelopes to a 3-1 week by hitting .321...ranked eighth in the league in hitting for the week...posted 22 kills in 53 attempts with only five errors...outstanding on setting up her teammates after averaging 9.23 assists per game...totaled 120 assists - tops in the PacWest for the week - over 13 games.
Fabiane Seben - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-1, MH, Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Guimaraes Junior)...ranked second in the PacWest for the week in hitting (.500)...registered 20 kills with four errors in 32 attempts...ranked sixth in service ace average for the week (0.38) and second in block average for the week (1.12)...ninth in scoring for the week in the league after averaging 3.50 points per game...had 28 points on 20 kills, three aces, eight block assists and a block solo.
Katie Swenson - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 5-9, S, Bellevue, WA/Omaha Gross Catholic)...led the PacWest in assists per game during the week (12.22)...totaled 110 in nine games.
