CUH WBB: Chaminade Drops Senior Night Contest to Vulcans, 64-44

Ahakuelo leads with 17 points, 8 rebounds

Box Score HONOLULU, HI – The Silverswords were defeated by the Vulcans of UH-Hilo 64-44 in the final contest of the 2011-12 season for both teams. 
 
Chaminade took the action to Hawaii-Hilo early on in the first half and led 11-6 after a Kelly Costello (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake) three-point play with 13:23 left in the first half.  The lead got larger as sophomore Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) scored five more and led 16-6 with 12:20 left in the half.  (Ewa Beach, CA/Pearl City) with 11:10 left in the first half.
 
The Vulcans answered and took a five-point lead into the break, leading 31-26 at the half. Chaminade sophomore Jordan Ahakuelo led all scorers with 10 points at the half.  CUH senior guard Kelly Costello added 9 points, including two three's. The Swords shot 35% for the half, while the Vulcans shot 55%, gaining the five-point advantage. 
 
Hawaii-Hilo got out quickly in the second half, going on a 6-0 run in the first four minutes of the second half to lead 37-26 at the first media timeout of the second half.   The Vulcans kept it going, leading 53-30 with 7:35 left in the contest.  Hilo won the contest 64-44. 
 
CUH shot 28% from the floor and UHH shot 50% on the contest.  Sophomore Jordan Ahakuelo (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) led the way for the Swords with 17 points and 8 rebounds.  Senior Kelly Costello added 14 points in her last contest for Chaminade.  
 
The Vulcans were led by Hillary Hurley with 22 points and 13 rebounds.  Hawaii-Hilo out-rebounded CUH 33-25.
 
The Swords conclude the year 1-23, 1-17 PWC on the year, while Hawaii-Hilo finishes 14-12, 11-7 PWC.
