HONOLULU – Chaminade University women's volleyball head coach
Kahala Kabalis Hoke announced three players will join the Silverswords for the 2015 season.
Skyler Curry and
Daisia LaBrie both signed National Letters of Intent while the team will add transfer
Keani Passi to the roster.
Skyler CurryCurry is a senior setter at Westlake High School in Westlake Village, Calif., and helped guide the Warriors to their second consecutive Marmonte League Championship, averaging 10.4 assists per set. She garnered first team all-league honors and was named to the all-county second team while earning Offensive Player of the Year honors. Prior to Westlake, she prepped at Newbury Park High School for three years and was named Offensive Player of the Year her junior season. Curry also earned academic honor roll honors and won the scholar-athlete award all four years in high school. She played club volleyball for SG Elite, Sports Shack and Lava South. She also helped guide the Nfinity VBC to a fifth-place finish at the AAU nationals in 2014.
Daisia LaBrieLaBrie is a senior middle blocker from Norco High School in Riverside, Calif., the same high school that produced current Silverswords outside hitter,
Cassie Rushlow. A four-year starter with the Cougars, she earned all-league honors all four years, including being named to the first team three times starting from her sophomore season. Aside from first team all-league honors her senior year, LaBrie was named the team's Most Valuable Player, was the Offensive Player of the Year, Most Inspirational and earned the Captain's Award. She also earned all-league first team, first team all-CIF and Offensive Player of the Year honors during both her sophomore and junior seasons while being named both the league and school Most Valuable Player her junior year. She also helped guide her club 16s team to a gold medal in the Junior Nationals.
Keani PassiPassi, a right-side hitter, joins the Silverswords after a standout junior college career at the College of Southern Idaho. After earning second team All-America status as a freshman in 2011, she helped guide the Eagles to their record 10th NJCAA national championship and was named AVCA Junior College Player of the Year and a NJCAA First Team All-American, leading CSI with 417 kills and 62 service aces. She then went to NCAA Division I power Hawai'i-Manoa and, after redshirting 2013, was the Rainbow Wahine's opening day starter in 2014, playing in 18 matches with three starts. Passi, a Waianae, O'ahu native, was a multi-sport standout at Pearl City High School, earning three letters in volleyball, four in softball and two in basketball. She was named OIA Player of the Year while leading the Chargers to the OIA West championship. Passi will have one year of eligibility remaining.
